The City of Cape Coral will be considering a new residential rental ordinance next Wednesday May 28th at 9:30 AM. This ordinance changes the one time rental registration fee of $35 to an annual fee of $600, a 1700% increase. This ordinance also includes language that would allow Cape Coral Police Department to remove occupants of a rental until the owner complies. This is a revenue grab and double taxation on homeowners! The revenue generated will be used for a new local tourist development tax allowing new cultural activity centers, pickle ball courts, and bocce ball courts. Homeowners already pay property taxes to go to these amenities.
